Nestled in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, Bolton Abbey is a destination that never fails to impress.
Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply looking for a peaceful place to walk with the family, this stunning estate has something for everyone.
We recently took a trip there and were left in awe of its breathtaking scenery, fascinating history, and the many trails that make it a walker’s paradise.
Bolton Abbey is best known for its picturesque ruins of a 12th-century Augustinian monastery.
The Priory was established in 1154 and thrived for centuries before falling victim to Henry VIII’s dissolution of the monasteries in the 16th century.
Today, the remains stand proudly against the backdrop of the River Wharfe, offering a dramatic and peaceful setting that captivates visitors of all ages.
The Perfect Walk for All Ages
One of the best things about Bolton Abbey is the variety of walks available. Whether you have little ones in tow, a pushchair, or just want a leisurely stroll, there’s a route for everyone.
The Riverside Walk: This gentle trail follows the River Wharfe and offers stunning views of the Abbey. It’s an easy, flat path, perfect for young children or anyone looking for a relaxed walk.
The Strid: If you’re after something a little more adventurous, head towards the Strid. This narrow, rushing section of the river is a dramatic natural wonder, but caution is advised as the water can be dangerously powerful. The woodland paths here are truly magical, filled with towering trees and wildlife all around.
The Valley of Desolation & Simon’s Seat: For those who love a challenge, this longer walk takes you through rugged landscapes, past waterfalls, and up to Simon’s Seat, where you’ll be rewarded with spectacular panoramic views.
Nature and Wildlife
Beacon Fell is teeming with wildlife, offering a chance for children to learn about nature firsthand. Keep an eye out for roe deer, rabbits, and a variety of bird species. The forest is also home to foxes and badgers, though they are more elusive. If you’re lucky, you might even spot a buzzard soaring above the treetops.
In spring and summer, the wildflowers bring bursts of color to the park, while autumn transforms the area into a golden wonderland. Winter walks at Beacon Fell have their own magic, with frost-covered trees and crisp air adding to the charm.

In a professional context it often happens that private or corporate clients corder a publication to be made and presented with the actual content still not being ready. Think of a news blog that’s filled with content hourly on the day of going live. However, reviewers tend to be distracted by comprehensible content, say, a random text copied from a newspaper or the internet. There are many variations of passages of Lorem Ipsum available, but the majority have suffered alteration in some form, by injected humour, or randomised words which don’t look even slightly believable. If you are going to use a passage of Lorem Ipsum, you need to be sure there isn’t anything embarrassing hidden in the middle of text.
